profile

Founded in 2002 by musicians Keiichiro Shibuya and maria.
The record label releases CDs of cutting-edge electro-acoustic works from around the world.
The label is also very active working together with various creators on designs, network technology, videos, and more.
ATAK receives positive reviews from both Japan and Europe,
and they receive a lot of offers to release pieces, as they are one of the few music labels that can handle technology and art.
In addition to collaborating with research institutions like the University of Tokyo and YCAM to develop sound-generating programs that incorporate genetic algorithms and non-linear science, Shibuya has also recently composed music for Japan's crosswalks at the request of the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences and the Metropolitan Police Department, with his wide array of activities gaining him attention.
The "filmachine" sound installation unveiled in 2006 used 24 speakers and LED lighting, and the project's CD "ATAK010 filmachine phonics" included vertical sound movement and was the first CD in the world to be specifically made for listening to on headphones. This installation and CD received an Honorary Mention in the Digital Music division at Austria's annual Ars Electronica technology and art festival.
In January of 2008, Shibuya unveiled filmachine at Berlin's transmediale festival and held a concert there, which recently received praise from Michael Nyman and Heiner Goebbels.
Future activities will revolve around concerts in Europe and installations at art museums, with participation in major festivals such as Elektra in Montreal and club transmediale in Berlin.
The 2009 ATAK NIGHT4 held at several locations in Europe and Asia has also caused a huge sensation.
