Yuko Araki × Keigo Oyamada Special Talk

mi-gu 's third album "pulling from above" will be released.
Yuko Araki wants to make music with the artists she has met when making a solo album, and many artists are participating in this work. Among them, the title song that Keigo Oyamada and the members of the Cornelius band who have been influencing her since the first album has had a great influence gives a new mi-gu dawn with a positive vibration that has never been seen before. It became an important song.
Araki first took part in the Cornelius tour about 10 years ago. Start talking with the two people who have been with each other for many years.

Natural and sensitive

-Araki used to say that Mr. Oyamada was an "important person who gave me experience."

Araki: Yes. First of all, the world tour is not something I want to do, especially since I haven't listened to music so much, so the people I play with have a great influence on me. In that sense, I'm glad that I was glad to meet you. Mr. Oyamada has old fans everywhere he goes. Despite being a great musician, there is no such thing as "I'm amazing". It’s always very natural! The other day, I also participated in the recording of Yoko Ono, but I usually know Mr. Oyamada for a long time when it comes out with a bright idea because it's usually too ordinary. It's amazing!" However, even immediately after making such a great place, it is normal again (laugh). Looking at Mr. Oyamada, I think I should do it when I do it. I also want to be like that.

― On the contrary, what kind of person do you see Araki-san from Mr. Oyamada?

Oyamada: Araki doesn't really know anything about music, for example (laughs). But instead, I'm not particular about it. Therefore, it responds to this request in a completely blank state. I think that's amazing. There aren't many people like that. If you continue to play drums for many years, you will get a lot of knowledge and it will come out. But Araki-san doesn't have that, so it's easy to do.

Araki: I think Mr. Oyamada has a vision that he wants to be like this, but I'm hitting it without knowing that vision at all (laughs).

Oyamada: But it's interesting because she responds with her sensitivity. I think that the gap is comfortable, so I think it's a perfect play.

Araki: But there are times when it's really different, right? Like "Ah, did you come?"

Oyamada: If it's a CD, don't you edit it 100% yourself? Hit points and strength, when the hat opens. But when you replace it live, you don't have to be 100% together, but if you put something in a place you didn't expect, the balance is really interesting.

Araki: Even when I'm watching the exchanges with Mr. Oyamada's other members, I find it interesting and immediately pick up what happened. "Oh, that's good!" With that word, everyone simply thinks, "If it's okay, let's do it."

The reason why mi-gu started

Araki: I was able to start mi-gu because of Cornelius. At first, Mr. Oyamada listened to the song I made. Then he said, "It can be completely different than I thought." So the image swelled up and I thought I should make an album.

―What did you think was different from what you had in mind?

Oyamada: No, it was a very dark song (laughs). I didn't usually see that kind of atmosphere in Araki, so I was surprised. However, when I listened to it often, I was convinced that there was a manga cafe in the neighborhood where I had a place to relax, and it was sad because it collapsed. Lol).

Araki: That is the song called "What to do?" in the first album.

Oyamada: But this album is fine. The first and second shots were a bit more minor, but this time it's more like a major or something brighter.

Araki: By making the first piece, I knew what kind of song I liked and what I wanted to do, and I connected it to the second piece, but considering the flow from the first piece to the third piece, in the meantime I've met a lot of different people, and I've been doing Cornelius all the time, and I've started to think that it's good to be cheerful with bright songs because of the influence of so many different people.

Oyamada: So that's it.

Araki: So, I'd like to be able to include myself for each album at that time. I wanted to reflect the relationships I had met. With that meaning in mind, I have the leaders participate every time, but this time I especially had all Cornelius bands participate.

-Why did you decide to do the song "pulling from above" together?

Araki: It was the song I thought was the best point of contact between Mr. Oyamada and mi-gu. Perhaps if this is the case, I wonder if the leader would like to do it.

Oyamada: It was recorded by Hirotaka-kun in our studio on the second floor. I was working on the 3rd floor, so when I was called by two people, Mr. Shimizu let me listen to the song and said, "Please give me that" (laughs). So when I played it properly, Mr. Shimizu and Mr. Araki said, "Oh, it's like this!" It took about an hour.

Araki: With Cornelius recording, editing is premised on performance, but with mi-gu, I basically never edit. That's why you worked out a lot.

Oyamada: I was nervous (laughs). It's been a while since I recorded a single shot while listening to a track.

Sometimes it can be expressed only with a drum

-Did you see Mr. Araki's changes over the past 10 years?

Oyamada: My pants got thinner. And my shoes are thin. And my hair turned black.

Araki: That's exactly right (laugh).

Oyamada: The music...I've been together all the time, so it's not that it changed a lot, but between the tour of "point" and this tour, the drums were very stable, and it improved. I really thought that I was a fan.

Araki: I've been to Cornelius for 3 albums, but once every 3 or 4 years, I've naturally participated in live performances and recordings by other artists, and when I went back to Cornelius after experiencing it. Well, I think about what I can do. I feel the trajectory of my growth when I return to Cornelius.

-Did your attitude towards drums change?

Araki: At first, I thought that I could live without a drum at first (laugh), but now I want to do what I can do with a drum, and I think I can only express myself with a drum. I will.
