Kotringo ×Yuichi Ohata Two Talks for the New Album “trick & tweet”

Kotringo third album, "trick & tweet," is more open and powerful than ever.
This work was created by inviting many musicians such as Aigon (Shigekazu Aida), Yuko Ando, and SAKEROCK. While there are many colorful songs that reflect their musicality, the pure and fantasy world of Kotringo is certainly alive in each song.
Kotringo once said, "I was afraid to entrust the music creation to other people." Why was she able to get the strength with this work that will not shake even if she jumps into an unknown area? I feel that the existence of Yuichi Ohata, who created "Futari", which is one of the most vibrant vibrations in this work, has a great influence there.
Starting with "Furera" that was recorded in the 2nd album, we asked them who are also co-starring in the soundtrack of the movie "Girls Monogatari" that is currently being released about their existence.

-First, please tell us about your encounter.

Kotringo: When I heard Mr. Crumbon covered Ota's "gentle life", I thought it was a very good song and started listening to Ota's music. A little later, I was supposed to co-star at an event called "MUSIC CITY Tenjin" in Fukuoka.

-What were your impressions of each other at that time?

Kotringo: Anyway, I thought my voice was wonderful. The tone of the guitar is not a strum of the chords, but a beautiful arpeggio tone and the words are very kind. I was very attracted to the overall soft feeling.

Ohta: I remember being surprised anyway. I've never heard the music of someone who plays like Kotori-san, so it's really fresh. While I had a strange atmosphere, I felt something like strength, so I thought it was interesting and I was watching it.

-How did the first collaboration work, "Furera", progress?

Kotringo: Until then, I used to write the lyrics and songs myself, but I felt like I was spinning around the same place as when I was doing it alone. When asked "Who would you like me to write it?", Ota-san came to the forefront. So I asked Ohata for the lyrics and Mito from Clambon for the song.

Ohta: First of all, I received an order from Kotori-san, "I like this," and wrote the story before the song. After that, I got a humming melody from Mito and listened to it. I don't think much about matching with Kotori-san's character, I feel like I was writing what I wanted to write.

Kotringo: When I read the words that came up, I thought it was just magnificent. The lyrics are romance, but it feels like they are not together. I feel that various imaginations swell, whether it's working well, it's over, or it's working but it's independent. It was an abstract but strong-minded person's view of the world, so I was a little worried whether I could sing well.

Ohta: The songs that Mito made also became more and more magnificent and chaotic as demo tapes came out. I thought it was something I couldn't do on my own, which was very inspiring.

―What kind of consciousness did you have when you made the second collaboration, "Futari"?

Ohta: It was my first time recording together, so I didn't really think about the last time, and I'm planning to do it together for the first time, so I thought it would be good if the two could discuss and deepen.

Kotringo: Last time, in a sense, I felt like I was writing a letter and waiting for a reply. I place an order from here and wait for what comes up. But this time I was able to do it together with "Seno!", so I think it was really good. It was my bad habit, and I was asked to do things I didn't ask for at first, so I think the staff were sick (laughs). At first, I'd ask only for the guitar, but he asked me to play the blues harp, put in the chorus, and even play percussion and harmonica. But it was a lot of fun. I've been recording in the studio for the two of us all the time, so I feel that the world of "the two" has become stronger.

Ohta: What I felt when I entered the studio together was that the destructive power of Mr. Kotori's piano was amazing. It's a shocking feeling when you first saw it in Fukuoka, or it has a great groove feel. It made me feel as if I was running together. I'm playing on the piano and the guitar together, and I don't know which one, or in a tremendous sense of speed, I felt that my own sound disappeared, rather even myself. .. Under such circumstances, while saying "It's fun, it's fun", I tried various things like "Let's do that, let's do this too." In a good sense, it was a comfortable feeling like making a demo tape, and at the end, the two of us were blowing the bird flute like crazy (laughs).

Kotringo: so! I was surprised that Ota's bird flute was wonderful.

-In addition to Mr. Ohata, this time you are collaborating with various people, but what is the meaning (for Kotringo) with "two people" in that?

Kotringo: I'm so acquainted with people, so I don't know what to do with the first person to meet me, but I met Otasan several times and wrote the lyrics in the previous work, Oh, I also really liked the world of music myself, so don't worry about it. It's a very relaxing song.

― If the pure part of Kotringo is condensed and the song written by himself, and the one that shows a new aspect is a collaboration song with other people, "Futari" is in the middle It felt like a song that was tied together.

Kotringo: With this song, I feel like I was able to take a break from the album. Maybe Ohta is good at neutralizing.

Ohta: Certainly there may be something in between. Because I am in the middle of three brothers. I had an older sister and a younger sister, and I watched them fighting and tying from a distance in a neutral position. I think that also has an effect.

Kotringo: On the contrary, I am the youngest. I often don't feel that way because I speak this way, but I'm stubborn and WAGAMAMA (laughs).

Ohta: That's why there are places where you are attracted to different things. To be honest, I wanted to be stronger. When I listened to Kotori-san's music, it wasn't the energy to go out, but I felt that the energy contained inside was very strong, that is, making something that I was satisfied with. You also yearn for it.

Kotringo: Probably now I have a strong sense of not doing my best. I think there is something weird. But in order for people to listen, I can't tell unless I'm relaxed. Gutsun! Even if I make something like this, I think that I can not work well unless my shoulder strength is weakened. In that sense, Ohta-san is a person who teaches me how to remove power.

-In the movie "Girls Monogatari" that is currently open, you are making movie music together.

Ohta: I wanted you to use the piano mainly, so I thought I would ask Kotori-san. We had you make an outstanding performance.

Kotringo: Before I participated in the recording, I used to feel light, but when I started it was full of things to do. It was a difficult scene because there were quite important scenes.

Ohta: I've been doing movie music several times, but it's the first time I've heard so much music. I had a lot of discussions with the movie staff and reworked it over and over again, so it was quite difficult. But that kind of experience is something I can't do much when I'm making it myself, so it was fun. On the contrary, if there are various requests and restrictions, it will burn, and it will be a different pleasure from making music by yourself. In that sense, which work is not the main thing, and I feel like I was doing it for myself, even if I were two people.

Kotringo: You taught me a lot during the recording of "Futari". He listened earnestly to the other side of the booth and said, "Isn't it good now?" I felt that the positions had reversed before I knew it, and I think I should continue to do a lot of interesting things with Oota.
