logo

Our logo was specially designed by art director and graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook. The typeface created by Barnbrook derives from a spiral motif, which we feel symbolically represents the core philosophy of ‘commmons’.

The spiral represents:

1: AT THE EPICENTRE
2: INTERACTION
3: ENERGY
4: DYNAMIC MOVEMENT
5: MUSIC
6: DIVERSITY & UNIVERSALITY

We love this design by Jonathan.
We feel it truly represents the spirit of who and what‘commmons’ is about.

~ Jonathan Barnbrook Profile ~

Barnbrook studied graphic design at Central St. Martins and The Royal College of Art in England.
In 1990 he established his studio in Soho in London. He has turned his back on creating work solely for the purpose of “business.” His work challenges the traditional notion of graphic design and he has not been shy to cross over and work in a variety of media such as print design, industrial design, typeface design, and television commercials during his career. He is one of the most sought after designers in London today.

In Japan, Barnbrook is well known for the logo he designed for Roppongi Hills, as well as volunteer work done for Sakamoto’s project, STOP-ROKKASHO. For Sakamoto’s project, Barnbrook designed the web site as well as the project logo. His generosity and goodwill greatly helped to set the Rokkasho project in motio n at both a literal and an inspirational level.
