profile

Members Kimitoshi Sato, Takumi Namba, Yu Yoshida and Masaru Yoshida came together around Ei Wada to begin their activities in 2009. This project revolves around using a traditional open reel magnetic recorder and docking it with modern computers to play it like an instrument. The ensemble plays music by manipulating the spinning and movements of the reel by hand or computer and simultaneously recording the sounds onto tapes. These mysterious musical tones and their musical qualities have been well received, and the group participated in the music for the "Space Balloon Project" (as part of the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival's Entertainment Division Project), which used NTT Docomo's Galaxy S SC-02B smartphone that came out in June 2010, and in October of 2011, they had a limited release of "Tape to Tape," their first ever recorded album, on a 5-inch open reel tape. Their live performances also receive positive reviews, and the group has performed at Sonar Tokyo, Sense of Wonder, Kaikoo, and Boycott Ryhthm Machine events. They have also performed overseas at events such as Sonar 2011 Barcelona and Ars Electronics (in Linz, Austria).
